Hidey, been a while since people posted general what I've been doing stuff here.
Saavakstan's building continues. I started a new triple-scraper project next to my supertall - by the time I got the proportions sorted it was damn near as tall as that one.
The first one is externally complete, but building it made me realise how much dyed glass/concrete I need. So I caved and built a dye store/concrete manufacturing centre. Glass & Concrete are to the left, Terracotta and Glazed Terracotta to the right, Dyes are held in the Shulkers in the middle of the path.
I'm pretty pleased with how it worked out. I even managed to build one of those concrete making machines for myself in the process.
One of the hardest things (for me) was getting an acceptable gradient on the colour swatches. The default colour swatch (0x0 Squid Ink to 0xF Bone Meal) never hung right for me, as it places pink right there in the middle. I tried that out here and it looked awful. I threw together a few sorting algorithms for it (One based on a Hilbert Walk, another based on Travelling Salesman sorting) but the specific colours used in Minecraft meant that I kept ending up with three or more erratics.
Finally, I just converted the Hex value of the colours to Digital Luminescence Values, and this gave me a gradient I like. The one huge stinking fly in the ointment is the damned Purple Shulker Box. I don't understand why Mojang don't assign an undyed and a purple-dyed texture to the boxes, in much the same way they have with Glass and Terracotta. It sticks out like roadkill, and sets my teeth on edge every time I see it.
That's all from this edition of What's Happening in Saavakstan. Please remember to purchase your souvenir tshirts at the desk on your way out, and remember that you can download this episode, and all episodes, on your favourite podcast player.
