New Birmingham Horse Track is ready for improvements

The track has been laid out, the starting gates are ready for use, and there are stables, a paddock, and tack room. The track can be reached by taking the nether access tunnel for New Birmingham and going off to the right (there is a sign) just before the portal to New Birmingham.

There is a lever (and sign) beside the leftmost starting gate that is used to close the gates and then to start the countdown.

There are lots of improvements that are needed (viewing stands, etc.) and additional purpose builds are welcome. It is a work in progress, but please feel free to use and improve. There is lots of terraforming, landscaping, and beautifying that need to be done.

I wish to thank Boye for his help in leveling the area.
 
Looks great, I'll come and do something - probably not creative though! btw- I can't remember if horses can be taken through those nether <shiver> portals.... anyone?
 
I'll be more than happy to add something :) I'm in a bit of an MC lull at the moment but when I get inspiration I will contribute. Just a thought though, on the old racetrack we used green carpet, it gave an even colouring and you can hide lamps underneath keeping it lit up. Is this something you'd want? It's the kind of mindless MC task I'm capable of at the moment :) just a suggestion though, if you have something else in mind then no problem!
 
Capt & Mac, any help would be greatly appreciated. I was planning on doing the carpet thing, just hadn't gotten around to it. Guess I need to work on getting green wool, I've got several stacks of pumpkins. I'll start making jack-o-lanterns and replacing the torches, or either of you can do that.
 
I'm happy to spend some time in Ori's sheep farm harvesting wool, it's the perfect job right now :) I'm happy to visit the witch farm or the guardian BBQ to get some glowstone/lamps to save all the pumpkin gathering if you like? I'm due a tour round Sillen's new farms anyway :)
 
I don't know what the spacing for lighting is in 1.9, I think it used to be 5 or 6 apart? The track looks quite big so we could always use glowstone if we run out of pumpkins, no one will see it anyway. Brown wool would also work, you choose which and I'll start collecting the wool!
 
I'm happy to pitch in some pumpkin stacks :) WIll drop them off at the track later today.
This track already looks amazing on the map! Great job!
I've never been to a racetrack before... what kind of things are still missing and where? Like icecream- or hotdog shops? Or is it more like wine and shrimps?
 
I've never been to one either, but I'd say any of those would be great. I'm sure that you get all kinds of people at tracks.

Couldn't sleep, so played for a while. I had enough jack-o-lanterns to do the track, but not near enough to do the rest of the area.
 
That's a good idea EZ, I made one on SG next to the course, but the server reset soon after and it was never really used.
 
Mac, the green looks good on the map, haven't had time to check it out in game yet. That pub sounds great, esp. right now as I have been working my ass off the last couple of days.
 
I've left a chest with a few stacks of green wool just inside the door of my Ham base if anyone wants to lay some track. I'm more than happy to do it but there's always the possibility I'm not around for a few days!

Also there's a bunch of green sheep in the basement, go inside my base, the grass square nearest the door has a trapdoor in it.. then leave the storage room into the garden and walk the path to the back left corner you'll see the sheep pen. You'll hear them before you see them, they're behind dirt and fence and vines.

It saves having to go all the way back to spawn to get more wool.
 
Well, except for making a steeplechase area, I have run out of ideas. So far I have the track, stables, a paddock, a grandstand, Red's Trackside Cafe, and even a crude speed test area. There is the entire center area of the track as well as about half of the area outside the track to be developed. Any suggestion/ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.
