Few bits of news to share with you.

Staffing Changes
Ever since Hangout launched the concept of "staff" has been a woolly one. The veterans and admins (whether active or not), have all jointly pitched in and done what was needed. A fair few of the veterans have now found that life is getting in the way and the time they have to spend on Hangout is limited. For that reason and to streamline the running of the server, we've decided to split the concept of "staff" (red) and "veterans" (gold) apart and have them as separate roles to move forward with a smaller active staff team.

Some of the veterans are stepping into staff roles, the rest are staying on as veterans and may take on staff roles in the future as the need arises their time allows. The staff role call currently consists of:

And we're really pleased to say that @Amaris3004 is joining the staff team from the member ranks - welcome to Team Red! :cool:

Whilst each member of staff has their own area they've been tasked with, they all (more or less) have the same levels of access and permissions, so if you spot something that needs sorted, or you need help with something, just grab any Red. If they can't help, they'll know who can.

Unlike the Veteran rank which is grandfathered in and not something players can join, our staff positions are something long term players who are in good standing and active can be involved in. The Veteran team will be heavily involved in staff recruitment and it will be an invite only position – we'll announce more about that when the time comes that we're looking to recruit again.

These staff updates will roll out on the forum and in-game over the next few hours.

Performance Updates
The server software we use (Paper) has finally released an update for Minecraft 1.14.4 that re-enables asynchronous chunk loading. Probably doesn't mean a lot to many of you, but this is the missing functionality that was causing chunks to load so slowly and cause so much lag ever since 1.14 released. It will take a few days before I brave the update, and it will likely be a few days after that before we know it's 100% stable, but it looks like we should see the performance improve soon.

New Applications
We've got a few things to tidy up, such as updating the rules for the new worlds layout, but we're fairly close now to being able to re-open applications. We'll post more about this very soon, but we're not far away from having some fresh blood to bully... haze... abuse... welcome!

Live Map & Chat Issues
A patch has been released that promises to fix the issues that have stopped me being able to re-launch the live map for the Main world. I'll be testing that over the next while and hopefully be able to roll that back out again soon. Also, some of you are aware there have been issues with the chat plugin we use to talk across worlds. This is something I'm aware of and I'll try and set aside some time to get a replacement plugin tested and rolled out. Watch this space.
